In Memoriam: Dr. Freddie Fu (1950–2021)

It is with deep sadness that the Freddie Fu Cycling Team announces the passing of its title sponsor, Dr. Freddie H. Fu, on September 24, 2021. He was 70 years old.

Dr. Fu was a world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon, the David Silver Professor and chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, and head team physician for the University of Pittsburgh's athletic teams. But to the members of this cycling team, he was much more — a mentor, a friend, and a tireless champion of the sport of cycling.

Dr. Fu founded the team in 1998, and his passion for competitive cycling inspired generations of riders. His philosophy of structured training, teamwork, and the keen focus to read a race and react as a team became the foundation of the squad's identity.

The team extends its deepest sympathies to the Fu family during this difficult time. Dr. Fu's legacy will continue to guide and inspire the Freddie Fu Cycling Team for years to come.
